The gruesome murder of a Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, who was shot dead by unknown gunmen on the eve of just concluded Local Government Elections, in Lagos State, Emmanuel Uba, a.k.a Onwa, has thrown residents of Festac Town in Amuwo Odofin LGA into panic, as the police are yet to make any arrest.
Onwa who was shot dead Friday, July 21, few hours before the local government election, was accosted by his assailants on a motorbike at 7th Avenue, Festac. They reportedly opened fire on him. He died on the spot after sustaining two bullet wounds, one on his face and the other, on the head. His assailants were said to have made away with his expensive mobile phones and wallet, making it look like a robbery.
Strange call from a friend
His political associates, friends and loyalists who were with him few moments before his death disclosed that Onwa received calls from someone he knew very well requesting that they met at a certain location within Festac Town. One of his friends who was with him before he received the call said; “We were in Amuwo- Odofin, preparing for the elections, when he received calls from the person. He told the person that he was in Amuwo- Odofin and the caller asked that they should meet at Apple Junction, and Onwa left with two persons.
“I was told that when they got to Apple Junction, he called the person who had called him and the person told him that he had moved from that place to 7th Avenue and they should meet at 721 Road. One of the persons who was with him at Apple junction told me that Onwa mentioned the name of the person who called him. We left him as we had other things to do.
“Few moments later, we got a call that he had been killed. We rushed to the spot where he was killed and we found his lifeless body in a pool of blood inside his SUV. We called the police who took his body away. As I speak, no arrest has been made. I wonder what the police have been waiting for to go after the killers of my friend,” he lamented.
Meanwhile, residents of that area of Festac Town have been trying to unravel the motive behind the brutal murder of the politician and businessman, who was seen participating during the APC’s campaign rallies around Amuwo-Odofin. Some suspected that it could be politically motivated.
Others blamed his activities as the Chairman of Community Policing Youth Vanguard of Amuwo Odofin, which saw him assisting the police in combating crime and criminality within Festac and Amuwo of Odofin areas as another point. There are yet those who said that his death could have been orchestrated by rivals at toll collecting points around Amuwo Odofin where he was said to have made several enemies.
