Join Obaze to ensure victory — PDP counsel

By Vincent Ujumadu

COUNSEL to the Anambra State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Clems Ezika has called on the governorship aspirants who lost to Mr. Oseloka Obaze during the primary held on Monday to join the winner to ensure the victory of the party in November.

Oseloka Obaze

His call came on the heels of a court action instituted by one of the aspirants who lost to Obaze, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah in an Anambra High Court sitting in Awka.

Obaze, the former secretary to the Anambra State government, SSG, defeated Ubah and others during the primary by scoring 672 votes against Ubah, who came a distant third with 94 votes.

Defendants in the suit No A/346/2017 filed before the vacation judge in Awka were INEC, PDP, the national secretary of the PDP caretaker committee, Senator Ben Obi and the chairman of the caretaker committee of the party in Anambra State, Professor Alphonsus Nwosu.

The suit, which was instituted on behalf of Ubah by Ben Chuks Nwosu,a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, had an attachment of list of delegates compiled for the purpose of the primary by Ifeanyi Ubah.

Instructively, the list was different from the result of the ward congress conducted by the Governor Nyesom Wike –led panel, which was authenticated by the ad hoc electoral appeal panel headed by the former deputy governor of Ebonyi State, Professor Chigozie Ogbu and used for the governorship primary held on Monday.

Ezika told Vanguard yesterday that Ubah’s agents dumped one of the papers in front of Senator Obi’s house in Awka, adding that the PDP national scribe contacted him to take up the matter.

He said: “After looking at the process, our submission is that it is a mere academic exercise not known by the PDP constitution and the electoral guideline. The delegates list used by Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State to conduct the primary was the authentic list certified by the national headquarters of the party.”

According to him, “You cannot go to your bedroom and compile names and expect the court to authenticate them as genuine.”

He, however, said that all the same, what was needed at this time was the cooperation of the aspirants that lost the primary to join Obaze to ensure the success of the party during the November 18 governorship election.
