BENIN CITY—THE 18 local government areas in Edo State have received N2.95 billion for the month of July as against the N2.18 billion disbursed in the month of June from the Federation Account.
This was disclosed by the Head of Local Government Administration in Esan South-East Local Government Area Mr Macaulay Ehonor, after the state’s Joint Account and Allocation Committee, JAAC, meeting, which was presided over by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
According to him, there was an increment of N770 million from the June allocation, adding that the over N6 billion Paris Club refund will be used to pay outstanding salaries of workers across the 18 councils of the state.
Ehonor explained that N1.45 billion of the N2. 95 billion July allocation was used for mandatory expenditures such as payment of primary school teachers’ salaries, one per cent training fund, as well as five per cent payment for traditional rulers.
He said the distributable sum left for the 18 councils was put at N1.49 billion, adding that “the electronic collection of taxes, levies and fixed rates in the entire councils in the state commenced in July and I want to admonish members of the public to comply with the directive.”
