The National Coordinator, Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) Dr. Ameh Onoja has lauded the commitments of the governor of Taraba state, Darius Ishaku, for prompt payment of counterpart funds of 70 million naira to actualize the Programme across five local government areas of the state.
Dr. Onoja stated this Monday in Jalingo during a supervision visit to the state’s Value Chain Development Programme, a programme that was assisted by FGN/IFAD.
The VCDP was conducted in Ardo-Kola, Karim-Lamido, Wukari, Gasol and Takum local government areas of Taraba state after the payment of 70 million naira counterpart fund by Taraba state government.
The programme assisted by FGN/IFAD was for the training of farmers in mechanize and commercial farming of Rice and Cassava.
He said the team of VCDP was in the state for a mid-term assessment and upward review of the programme and also to encourage more farmers join VCDP for more Agricultural activities in Taraba state.
Onoja further said the NGF/IFAD assisted programme was to explore more opportunities for committed farmers particularly in Taraba state after recent assessment by VCDP field workers which have proven the zeal of farmers in the state for bumper harvest for both dry and raining seasons.
In his response, the Commissioner of Agriculture Taraba state, Dr. David Ishaka Kassa said the state government and the farmers from the state were all out to make judicious opportunities availed to them by the VCDP in the state.
He commended the VCDP on the provision of infrastructural development, training of farmers and coordination of its projects across the five local government areas of Taraba state, he stated that the Taraba state executive council have already approved the counterpart funding of the 2017 project of the VCDP.
