In recent times, stakeholders in the entertainment industry have condemned the quality of music dished by Nigerian artistes, complaining of how much they lack content and advising artistes to carefully find the perfect recipe for credible musical content before jumping into the studio.

But for curvy afro-pop singer, Niniola, there is no perfect recipe/ingredients for a good song. The Maradona singer told Showtime in an exclusive interview that a hit or good song is a function of the individual’s personal judgment. She blamed the crap music we have today on artistes’ desire to do the same thing as other artistes instead of creating their own style of music.

“It depends on how you see it; I think maybe everybody is trying to do the same thing that’s why we have more of crap music these days. I really don’t know but I will speak for myself. Whenever I go into the studio, whatever comes out I dish out, especially when it comes to dance music; it’s meant for people to dance and not to meditate unlike slow music.

That’s why I have dance music and slow music as well, songs that you can just sit down and enjoy the lyrics and then when you want to dance believe me I have them too. Yes, it has to make sense but you’ll need catchy phrases and words. A whole lot makes good music; every song is different in itself; for some, it’s the beat while for some it’s the delivery of the vocalist and the lyrics for others.

There is no perfect recipe for having a hit song or a good song; the most important thing is for you to be able to touch someone’s soul. If you can do that regardless of what people think or feel, then you have good music, every song is different in itself
She later hinted that her debut album will be released before the year runs out. She said, “Right now I’m working on my debut album; and it will be dropping this year by God’s grace, then after that we’ll take it up from there.”
