The Lagos state government has trained about 15, 000 students of public and private secondary schools on sciences in the state aimed at solving Nigeria’s technology challenges.
The students scattered in 300 centres with about 50 participants each would be trained during ongoing vacation in science courses to boost their understanding.
Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Omobola Babs- Akinyeye, while declaring the training open in Ojodu, said the aim was to raise future experts that could help proffer solutions to Nigeria’s technology challenges.
According to her, the training is open to students in JSS1-SS3 and the centres are expected to conduct test for participants at the end of the programme in order to assess the impact of the programme.
She stressed that the vacation course has helped to further arouse the interest of more students in sciences at the secondary schools thereby boosting the future self dependence of the nation in the area of Science and Technology.
