Following ongoing birth registration of children under the age of five in Bauchi State, field workers conducting the exercise in Giade Local Government Area have called on UNICEF to extend the duration of house-to-house registration to ensure a 100 percent coverage of the area.

Vanguard monitored the exercise in some of the wards, such as Giade, Abunari, Doguwa, Zabi, Zindiri, Faguji, Chinkani, Kurba and Sabon-Sara and reports that the exercise was hitch free as households in the local government gave maximum cooperation to the field workers.
The local government Comptroller, Musa Sale, said that the exercise was going on smoothly because of the massive sensitisation by traditional and religious leaders, but noted that the deadline for registration, July 16, was not enough to achieve total house-to-house registration coverage of all the 13 wards of the local government.
A field worker, Hamza Abdullai, complained of lack of transportation for the exercise, saying field workers trekked long distances to conduct the house-to-house registration, thereby making the exercise tasking and slow.
