BENIN—MAJORITY Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr Foly Ogedegbe, has said that  the Assembly is working harmoniously with the executive to ensure that Governor Godwin Obaseki fulfils his electoral promises to the people of the state.

He said that dialogue between the executive and the legislature was a continuous process in every democracy, therefore, it must not be misconstrued as a conflict between the governor and the lawmakers.

Ogedengbe and the Chairman House Committee on Information, Mr Damian Lawani, were reacting to reports that the All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers were at war with Governor Obaseki after the governor slashed the overhead accrued to the House.

According to the Majority Leader, “We the APC lawmakers are solidly with the governor and we have no intension of defecting to another party.

We cannot do that because we are the party in control of the state and the federal level, we cannot leave the party. As lawmakers, there is always this constant dialogue between the executive and legislature on several issues and that is what you see everyday and not war.

“We are happy that we have a governor that is determined to take the state to the next level and we are giving him all the support to do that.”

On his part, Lawani said that “We are resolving any issued we have with the executive and it has nothing to do with us leaving the party. We cannot leave a party we all nurtured and today we are the ruling party. So we have no issue with the executive to warrant our members to join another party. And I can tell you that we are solidly with the governor in moving Edo State to the next level.”
