Members of Edo State of House of Assembly are not too happy with the Roland Ewere – led technical crew of Bendel Insurance Football club of Benin who has been struggling and fighting hard to get the Edo Arsenal out of the Nigeria National League (NNL) for the past ten football seasons.

In a chat with our reporter in Benin, some of the legislators expressed doubt in the abilities of technical team to give Insurance FC promotion to the elite league.

According to honourable Lawani Damian chairman House Committee on information and appropriation, “I must commend the efforts of the Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu, for the support and commitment to the team, he has been the engine room of the team since the start of this league season. His presence in every home game is a big boost to the team, and all  members of the State House of Assembly have imbibed the culture of going to the stadium to watch the team on every home match.

“However, I want to say that I am not impressed with their away results because home wins alone cannot give them the ticket for promotion. Yes they are doing well and fighting hard to actualise the dream, so I want to encourage them to up their game each time they play away. They can do it. We want a situation where premier league games will be played here at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium”.

In the same vein, Honourable Ugabi Kingsley said “I want to urge the team not to disappoint the State Governor Godwin Obaseki and football fraternity in Edo, because the government has indeed done marvellously in the area of support. The team has no reason to fail”.

Reacting also to Governor Godwin Obaseki’s plan on sports development in the state, Honourable Festus Edughele chairman House Committee on sports said “It is very painful that our darling team Insurance of Benin are still battling to get promotion to the elite league. You cannot talk about football in Nigeria without making mention of Insurance of Benin, but all the same I am encouraged by the support this present government is giving to the team. Our interest is promotion and the governor has said categorically that he will use the platform designed by Late Samuel Ogbemudia for sports development. Edo State will bounce back in sports”, he said.
