Delta SSG leads delegation to disputed communities

EKU—Secretary to Delta State Government, Chief Festus Agas, has been dispatched by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to the disputed Ovre-Eku areas of Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state in a bid to find a lasting solution to the lingering land dispute between Edo and Delta states.

Other members of the team include the state Attorney General, Mr Peter Mrakpor, permanent secretaries from the Ministry of Land, government aides and representatives from the state Boundary Commission.

Addressing residents of the area at Ovre-Eku, the SSG, while assuring the people of the state of government’s preparedness in resolving the dispute, told them that the state government constituted the team on the strength of the motion filed by the member representing Ethiope East in the state House of Assembly on the sufferings of his constituents over the dispute in a bid to find a lasting solution to the matter.

Chief Agas said: “We have listened to you, noted your contributions and we want to assure Ethiope LGA that the governor has the political will to look into the issue, having sworn to defend and protect the lives and properties of Deltans.

“We are here with the state Boundary Committee to find a lasting solution to this lingering land dispute. I am assuring you that with all the information gathered here today as well as my physical confirmation of your ordeal, we will communicate our findings to the appropriate authorities and this will also be carefully processed.”
