A magistrate court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State, yesterday, issued a production warrant against the six defendants, who allegedly robbed Mr. Sam Amuka, Publisher of Vanguard Newspapers in June last year.
The matter, which has suffered several adjournments was, yesterday, fixed for September 21 due to the absence of the defendants in court.
The men accused of carrying out the robbery are Koyis Usman, 22; Umaru Oseni, 46; and Abdul Rasaq Hassan, 43.
Others are Musa Atim Abubakar, 31; Gambo Umar, 31, and Abdulramon Kashil, 25.
They were arraigned last year after they were apprehended by detectives and subsequently arraigned before Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi on a four count-charge bothering on conspiracy, robbery and grievous bodily harm.
The prosecutor, Simon Imhonwa, had informed the court, at the resumed hearing of the case, that: “The defendants are not present in court. They are still in the custody and we are waiting for the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP.”
It will be recalled that the prosecution had accused the suspects of robbing Amuka, injured him and made away with cash and valuables valued at N2,875,000.
Their pleas were not taken because the magistrate’s court lacks jurisdiction to hear the matter, as the offences carry capital punishment.
They were, however, ordered to be remanded in prison custody, pending the DPP’s advice.
