Police arrest 2, deploy 200 officers to Ebonyi, C’River boundary communities

ABAKALIKI—EBONYI State Police Command, weekend, said it had arrested two notorious robbery suspects at Ezzamgbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jude Madu, the two robbery suspects, Oge,18, and Emeka, 20, were arrested by men of Ohaukwu Police Division in the area in collaboration with the youths and men of vigilante in the village.

He said two locally-made double-barrelled pistols, Army uniform with blood stains, two iron cutters, one saw-blade, two machetes, one hammer, one dagger, one gas cooker, one laptop, two ladies motorcycles, two 950 power generators, one Samsung handset, one standing fan, two speakers, one iron bar, one CD player, torch light and a bag containing some clothes were recovered from them.

Madu said: “Also arrested is a cult leader in the same area. He is Chidi, 19. He was also arrested with his axe, while his members fled on sighting the police. Efforts are on to arrest the remaining members of the syndicate.”

Reacting to the land disputes between Ofunakpa Inyimagu community in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and Nsobo community in Obubara Local Government Area of Cross River State, the police spokesman added that “police took necessary measures to restore normalcy in the areas.

“About 200 policemen are still stationed in these communities to protect lives and properties.”
