ABUJA—A pro-South East civil society organisation, the South East Advocacy Group, SEAG, has accused the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo of deliberately misrepresenting the facts and position of the law on the alleged appointment of his associate, Funsho Doherty, as the Director General of National Pension Commission, PENCOM, to replace the erstwhile Director-General, Mrs. Anohu-Amazu.
The group stated that the Acting President, being a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, should be conversant with the law that established the PENCOM, stressing that the recent appointment of a new Director-General not only contravened the law but was a deliberate act to continue the marginalisation of a section of the country.
The South East Advocacy Group in a statement in Abuja yesterday faulted the claims by the Special Adviser to the Acting President on Legal Matters, Dr. Bilkisu Saidu that Section 21 (2) of the Pension Reform Act (PRA) 2014, did not apply in the case of appointing the new DG of PENCOM, since not only the DG was removed, but the entire PENCOM Management Team.
The National Coordinator of SEAG, Mr. Patrick Odoh, challenged the Acting President to show Nigerians what Section of the Pension Act empowered him to dissolve the entire PenCom Management Board before the expiration of their tenure.
Odoh, who is a legal practitioner in the statement said: “The claim by the Acting President that Section 21 (2) of Pension Reform Act 2014 does not apply in the replacement of the removed DG is a deliberate misrepresentation of facts to hoodwink Nigerians and cover up glaring nepotism, cronyism, and impunity.
