LASU inter-varsity debate espouses Not too young to run bill

THE maiden edition of Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo inter-varsity debate tagged, Charting sustainable development in Nigeria, the youth agenda, hosted by LASU students government under the leadership of Kappo Olawale Samuel, deliberated on the feasibility of passing the, Not too young to run bill by the National Assembly.

Six universities, the University of Ibadan, UI; Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU; Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA; Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH;   and the host school, LASU, deliberated on the merits and demerits of signing the bill. They sought among other things a bill to give room for younger people to run for any elective positions in the country which has passed second reading at the National Assembly.

While proponents of the bill advocated  its speedy passage to afford Nigerian youths the opportunity to bring about the desired change in the country, opponents to the passage of Not too young to run bill, said inexperience and lack of exposure of the youths will jeopardise the true essence of the bill.

At the end of day, the debating team from the University of Ibadan won the competition while a student from the Lagos State University, Uzuegbu Faith, won the best orator of the competition. The winner of the competition went home with N100,000 cash prize alongside other gifts while the best orator won a scholarship worth N40,000.
