He spoke in Kaduna Sunday shortly after after Eid prayers in Kauru town, headquarters of Kauru local government area of the state where he went to join other Muslim faithfuls for the Eid prayers.
According to the governor, Nigerians should not allow agents of doom to realize their sinister agenda, saying that “let us be uncompromising about maintaining peace and promoting harmony.
“We should use this celebration to reflect and pray hard for peace and unity of Nigeria. As citizens, we should stand together against those preaching division and violence. Our diversity is a source of strength, and our common humanity is a threat to those who earn their living by manipulating differences” he said.
Speaking on why he chose Kauru local government where his deputy comes from to observe this year’s Eid celebration, the governor said the aim was to draw attention to poor development indices in the local government which only 8% of its population has access to electricity.
Malam El-Rufai said the state government team is determined to remedy the poor development indices in Kauru.
“We came here as a government to declare a state of development emergency in Kauru local government area. Kauru is behind in electrification, hospitals, roads, water and other basic social amenities.
“Within the next two years, we will do all that we can to ensure that we achieve significant progress in these areas within Kauru local government.”
In his welcome address, the Chief of Kauru, Alhaji Ja’afaru Abubakar, assured the Governor of their absolute commitment to peace and progress in the local government. The chief also bestowed on the Governor the traditional title of ‘Mabudin Kauru’, ‘pace setter of Kauru.’
