APC affirms ex-commissioner’s suspension

By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—The Owerri North leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC, has affirmed the suspension from the party, of the immediate past Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Udo Agoha.

The party’s current  stand was made public via a statement signed by the Owerri North APC Chairman and General Secretary, Apostle Hilary Ihebom and Pauly Egbujor respectively.

Part of the statement read: “after a thorough investigation by the fact finding panel headed by Dr. Joe-Ken Nzerem, the former Commissioner was found culpable of trying to factionalize the party in his ward, contrary to the party’s constitution.”

The APC leaders fumed that despite repeated invitations, Agoha refused to appear before the panel to clear himself of all the allegations levelled against him.

The party chieftains also disclosed that Agoha neither transmitted any formal letter to explain his absence nor appeared before the panel to clear himself of the charges, throughout the period the panel sat.

They described his refusal to honour the panel’s invitation as not only “an affront but also unbecoming of a public servant”.

Speaking on the outcome of his assignment, Dr. Joe-Ken Nzerem said that “a party like APC does not need people who think they are bigger than the party”, stressing that this could be why the former ruling party was plunged into the mess it is currently facing.
