AWKA- THE wife of the governor of Anambra State, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, has called for consistent prayers for leaders in positions of authority, arguing that prayers would enable such leaders to sustain the task of serving the people. Mrs. Obiano made the appeal during her visit to Isiagu, Okpuno, Amawbia, Nise, Mbaukwu, Umuawulu, Awka and Nibo communities all in Awka South local government area of the state. The tour was the last leg of her five-month tour of the 181 communities in the state.

She said: “Praying for people in authority is not an injunction that should be ignored. I can attest that my husband, Governor Obiano and his team, need prayers and likewise leaders across Nigeria and beyond to enable them carry out their mandate without distraction. Like fathers of many children, leaders need the direction and dictates of the Almighty God to be able to manage the complexity of the task at hand, and we all have a part to play, especially the women, in rendering such prayers.”

Mrs. Obiano enumerated the achievements of the Obiano administration which she observed, had positively impacted on the lives of citizens of Anambra and galvanized economic activities in the rural areas.

She noted that the N20million community-choose-it-your self-project had helped to boost the economy of the communities and helped to cushion the hardship arising from the current recession in the country.

According to her, “the palliative measures of tax relief and abolishing of levies in local markets for petty traders, barrow pushers, Okada riders, as well as abrogation of illegal levies in schools, were also positive actions taken by a caring and sensitive governor, who has the welfare of the people at heart.”

In his address during Mrs. Obiano’s visit to his constituency, the Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly and member representing Awka South Constituency II, Mr. Harford Oseke, assured that the people of the area were united in prayers for her and the governor.

Oseke said the communities started feeling the impact of government at the inception of APGA administration in Anambra State, with roads and community development projects, which had given the people a sense of belonging and called on the governor to sustain his style of opening up the agrarian communities to enable them evacuate farm produce to earn living income from the sale of their products.

At Amawbia, the Principal Secretary to the governor, Sir Willie Nwokoye, who hailed from the area, extolled the virtues of Mrs. Obiano’s dedication to charity, assuring her that the people of Amawbia, which he said, is also the home of the governor by virtue of the fact that the Governor’s Lodge was located there, would continue to support them with prayers.

Wife of the national chairman of APGA, Mrs. May Oye, said in her speech that the passion and commitment of Mrs. Obiano to the welfare of others was unparalleled.

Women leaders from the communities, including Evangelist Cecilia Nweke of Isagu, Mrs. Florence Anaenyeonu of Okpuno, Mrs. Chinwe Nwanna of Amawbia, Mrs. Oge Ekweozo, and Victoria Ogudo of Nibo, in their respective addresses, drew the attention of the governor’s wife to the challenges faced by the women in the rural areas.
