Maxi Okwu

Awka— THE over 60,000 members of Chief Maxi Okwu-led faction of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Anambra State have defected to the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, and pledged to ensure the emergence of the governorship aspirant in the party, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo, as the next governor of the state.
At a well-attended ceremony in Awka, weekend, the group, under the aegis of Movement for Greater Anambra State, MOFGAS, said it decided to dissolve into the campaign structure of Ezeemo because he was the kind of person Anambra State needed to move forward.
A leader of the group, Mr. Obi Okafor, regretted that APGA had been so bastardized such that it no longer represented the ideals of its late leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

Okafor said: “Events that took place after the Supreme Court ruling on the leadership crisis in APGA showed us that the Maxi Okwu group was no longer wanted in the party. We did everything humanly possible to get ourselves reintegrated, but were discouraged and we therefore had no other choice than to leave the party.”
Welcoming the group into the PPA fold, Ezeemo observed that the people of Anambra State had suffered for so long and promised to turn things around for the better if he was voted into power in November.
Chairman of MOFGAS, Chief Shederack Anakwue, said his group started the process of enthroning Ezeemo as the next governor of Anambra State three years ago, adding that the vision of the group was to ensure that the incumbent governor left the Government House after this year’s election.
“We have decided that power must shift to Anambra South this year and it is Ezeemo that will replace the present governor,” he said.
