CAF Confederation Cup: Zesco eye upset in Enugu clash

.Team arrive today

Zesco United FC will be out to pick a win on Sunday’s CAF Confederations Cup round of 32, first leg encounter aganist Enugu Rangers at Nnandi Azikiwe Stadium.

The Serbian coach of the club, Zlatko Krmpotic, gave the full 18 member squad that will fly aboard Ethiopian Airways from Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Airport to Enugu. The team departs at 3.30pm local time to arrive Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu later this evening.

The Team nearly won Champions League last season losing narrowly to winner’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the semifinals and Zesco administrative officer Francis Chitambala believes that his side is good enough and cannot be intimidated by the Nigerian side.

“We are expecting a big test, It is football as both teams have got equal chances going into the game, the other percentage higher or lower is achieved on the matchday depending on performance of either team.

“This team (Zesco United) perhaps in last season’s champions League was the only side that pushed Sundowns, the champions to the limits.

“As a matter of fact, Pitso Mosimane (Sundowns Manager) personally told me that should his side go past Zesco United, they would emerge champions of Africa,” said Chitambala in an interview with an online portal,Naija Football Plus.

Zesco will face the Nigerians a week later at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in a crash that will determine the team that will progress to the next round.

Meanwhile, coach of Zesco has named two new players to replace some of those who will miss the Sunday clash with Rangers in the first leg of the CAF Champions League pre-group encounter.

Four key players – Idris Mbombo, Jackson Mwanza, Misheck Chaila and Simon Silwimba are ruled out owing to suspension and injuries.

The media officer of the club, Katebe Chengo, announced new arrivals to the squad. They are Fackson Kapumbu and Dave Daka.
