PORT HAR-COURT— About 1,500 members of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, from Asari Toru and Degema Local Government Areas, yesterday, dumped the APC for the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Highlight of the ceremony at the PDP state secretariat on Aba Road, Port Harcourt, was when the Deputy Chairman-elect in the council election conducted by former governor Chibuike Amaechi in May before he left office, Mr Samuel Ikiroma, tendered his certificate of return from the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, to the state Chairman of the PDP, Mr Felix Obuah, saying he was tired of being in court over the election.
It will be recalled that a Federal High court in Port Harcourt nullified the local government election won by the APC in the state after governor Nyesom Wike assumed office in 2015.
Mr Ikiroma who led other decampees from his Degema local government to the ceremony, said they had to retrace their steps back to the PDP to move the state forward.
Also, a leader of the APC in Asari Toru local government area, Mr Orolosama Amachree who led decampees from his local government area, said they were tired of being in the APC, adding that they had to join o the PDP to be actively involved in advancing the course of the state.
Chairman of the PDP, in the state, Mr Felix Obuah lauded the decampees, promising that they would not be treated as new entrants into the party.
