The Zamfara State House of Assembly on Monday expressed willingness to ensure effectiveness of the Federal Government public primary schools feeding programme in the state as representatives of the people.

The Speaker of the assembly, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, who presided over the plenary session of the assembly, said the programme was laudable and a welcome development.

He expressed concerned over problems affecting the schools feeding programme in the state.

According to him, the programme is an issue of serious concern to the assembly as it affected the education sector.

“This programme is a welcome development as it will tackle unemployment and improve enrollment of our children into schools,” he said.

The Chairman of the House Committee on local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Dayyabu Rijiya, speaking under matters of urgent public importance said there were complains about the programme by the people of the state.

He said, “we received complains and some of these problems are technical while some are due do poor arrangements.

“It is our major responsibility to investigate and find solutions on any issues affecting our people; I am therefore calling on this house to investigate the matter to profer solutions,” he pleaded.

In his contributions, the Chairman of the House Committee on Special Duties, Mani Malam-Mummuni said the state government committee on the programme had been working to address some of the issues.

Malam-Mummuni, who is the representative of the assembly in the committee, said that complaints have already been reported to the office of the Vice President for proper action.
“As I am speaking now, the state coordinator of this programme is in Abuja over these issues.
”I am therefore assuring this house that we will continue to monitor the programme and report any issues that may need the assembly’s intervention,” he said.
