ABUJA—THE Senate, yesterday, took a swipe at Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola over his refusal to honour the invitation to appear and give insight into the performance of Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, in 2016.

Speaking yesterday, Chairman, Senate Committee on FERMA, Senator Magnus Abe,  who was apparently angry over the development, said that he was worried that the executive arm ignores invitations from the Senate, stressing that invitation from the Senate must be seen as a very serious communication that every officer must respect and take seriously.

According to Abe, it was unacceptable that Fashola failed to honour the committee’s invitation, especially when he was duly invited, adding that it was important for ministers and heads of government agencies to appreciate the fact that the National Assembly was part of the Federal Government.

He however, insisted that since there was official letter duly acknowledged, if there was any reason for Fashola to stay away from the meeting, he ought to have communicated the committee.
