The Police Command in Kogi State, yesterday, disclosed that two of its officers were killed during an invasion of a commercial bank by suspected robbers, just as another policeman was allegedly gunned down in Rivers State by robbers.

Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya, told newsmen in Lokoja that the officers died while warding off the robbers that stormed a bank at Odo-Ere in Yagba East Local Government Area of the state.

Aya said that the incident occurred on March 28, saying that the two slain officers were sergeants.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu, had set up a committee, headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operation, to investigate the incident.

He also said that reinforcement had been sent to the town to enhance security of lives and property, saying that the robbers would soon be arrested.

The killing of the officer in Rivers reportedly occurred during a shootout between robbers and some security operatives in Rivers State.

The cop was allegedly gunned down when robbers intercepted a bullion van around Iguruta-Ali area of Ikwerre, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

The robbers, who were said to be armed to the teeth, had reportedly blocked the van, which was on delivery duty, before robbing it.

A source disclosed that the incident took place around 1:30p.m. and that a policeman attached to the bullion van was fatally wounded.

The source, who did not want his name mentioned, alleged that the robbers carted away some bags of money from the van.

When contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer of the State Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, said the police was aware of the robbery attack on the bullion van, adding that they are still investigating the matter.
