THE Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu, has commenced selling some portions of its vacant plots of land to augment its revenue.
The acres of land, Saturday Vanguard leant, is a vast empty area in its campus III, leading to Rector’s village, located inside the institution.
When contacted to shed more light on the project, Rector of the institution, Prof. Austin Nweze, declined comments on the matter.
Sources in the age-long polytechnic however told Vanguard that it was a decision taken by the Board of the Governing Council when it met recently.
A source in the institution said the Rector informed staff about the sale, adding that the Enugu State Government promised to make N1billion available to the institution after selling the land.
A lecturer in the institution who craved for anonymity said: “We were told that the management took a decision to sell portions of the land in order to augment its dwindling revenue which we all know there is economic crisis in the country now and IMT by day is having increasing expenditure. We are watching because it was also said that the state government will give the school N1b out of the money generated from the sale.”
The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Dr. Ifeanyi Ojobo, also declined to comment on the matter, promising to get back to Vanguard at the fullness of time.
IMT, a state-owned polytechnic, recently underwent accreditation of its faculties which it was given a clean bill of health by the National Board for Technical Education, NABTE.
