Police arrest ‘fake cripple’ in Kano

A man, who has been posing as a cripple for over two years was, Monday, apprehended by policemen near the headquarters of Kano Foundation following a tip-off.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Zone I, DSP Samba Sokoto, who disclosed this in Kano yesterday, said the man specialised in criminal activities in Kano metropolis.

Sokoto said the suspect had also been operating as a street beggar before some residents of the area reported the matter to the office of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, Zone 1, Kano.

He said: “We got the information about the suspect but when our men arrested him, he was found to be physically fit without any deformity.”

He dispelled rumours that the suspect was a Boko Haram member, saying that only investigation would reveal his identity. He commended residents of the area for alerting the police and called on them to be security conscious.
