The senator representing Delta Central senatorial district in the Senate,  Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has defected from the Labour Party, LP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, over allegations of irreconcilable divisions in the national leadership of the Labour Party.

Ovie Omo Agege,

Omo-Agege, who made this known in his comments, yesterday, pursuant to Order 43 of the Rules of the Senate on his movement from LP to APC, said his defection was in response to the unfounded accusations, threats, and libelous allegations arising from irreconcilable divisions in the national leadership (National Working Committee/National Executive Council) of the LP  and consequent legal disputations between the opposing factions.

He said: “The differences in the hierarchy of the party have rendered the administration of the party ineffective and having regards to section 68(g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), may I humbly notify Mr. Senate President and my colleagues of my decision to switch my party membership from Labour Party to the APC.”

“Mr. President, colleagues, my decision to leave the LP for the APC is overwhelmingly supported by leaders and constituents of my senatorial district.”

, considering the troubling facts of the divisions within the national leadership of LP, with Bobo Adou and Alhaji Abdukadir Salam now simultaneously laying claim to the national leadership of LP.”
