50 Garlands for Debonair Lawmaker

Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade

Torrents of tributes are pouring already and they are all for a deserving parliamentarian and socialite of note, Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade. All roads lead to Owode-Yewa, Ogun State on Saturday, March 25, as the three-term former House of Representatives member rolls out the drum and fetes well wishers at the grand celebration of his 50th birthday.

Akinlade, who is one of the governorship hopefuls in Ogun State by 2019, will also add another feather to his cap with his turbaning as the Baba Adinni of Yewa land on the same day.

Expected to grace the occasion are eminent politicians including the Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara; his deputy, Yusuf Lasun; lawmakers from both chambers of the National Assembly, Speakers of state assemblies, traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, members of the organised private sector, among riveting others.

Given the political influence of the former lawmaker who represented Yewa South/Ipokia federal constituency wields, social pundits already termed the two-tier celebration the converging point where erstwhile political foes might mend fences and reunite.

Breaking into politics at a time when youths are considered unskilled and immature to handle elective offices, Akinlade etched his words on the marble, little wonder his name within and outside the Gateway State rings out with mythic quality.

Despite stepping aside after 12 years of dutiful representation, the suave politician still enjoys a cult-like popularity within the state, empowers and supports his people and this has continued to aid his towering aspiration for Oke Mosan government house in 2019.

Born in 1967 in Owode-Yewa, the ever-smiling Akinlade graduated from the Polytechnic Ibadan, and the University of Ado-Ekiti, where he got his Masters in Business Administration (M.B.A). Among others, he is a member of the Chartered Institute of Local Government and Public Administration and also an Associate Member of the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM). He is happily married to an Egba woman, Alhaja Olabisi Akinlade (nee Afolabi).
