By Dennis Agbo

IN a bid to reduce the unemployment in Enugu State and upgrade the state tertiary hospital to an enviable height, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has approved the employment of 344 workers at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, ESUTH with a vow to transform it into a world-class health institution.

The 344 medical personnel would fill vacancies in various departments of the Teaching Hospital including resident doctors, nurses and other staff with total monthly wage of N34, 361,903.

The Governor said the move was also necessitated by his administration’s goal of improving the hospital’s capacity to deliver better healthcare to the people as well as the recommendations of both the National Postgraduate Medical College and the West African College of Physicians.

Recalling that the governor had on assumption of office visited ESUTH where he settled different bills for indigent patients who were stranded at the hospital at the time of his visit, even as he expressed his desire to transform the hospital into a world-class health institution.

The CMD, Dr. Njeze, noted that the state government has been giving tremendous assistance to the hospital by paying for the service of all the workers.

Njeze said that carrying the wage bill of the hospital was by no means a great feat for the state government. “If you don’t pay people they won’t come to work and it’s no joke paying all workers here because they are many.
