Seaport truckers demand dissolution of JCOST

By Ifeyinwa Obi

There is tension in the fold of the Joint Count of Seaport Truckers, JCOST, as members of the body have called for the dissolution of the body and its executives over allegations of non-performance.

At a meeting of the Committee of Truck Owners on Traffic Management and Rescue, held in Apapa, Lagos, the truckers said that JCOST was established to be a rallying point for all haulage associations to speak with one voice.

They alleged that the leadership of the council has failed to achieve the purpose it was meant to serve which according to them includes defending truck owners against unpleasant policies.

Convener of the meeting, Alhaji Ishola Salami, said the truckers were summoning the JCOST leaders to a meeting to give account of their stewardship.

Also speaking, Public Relations Officer of the committee, Ifeanyin Okwunife , saod “We must restructure JCOST, the body came up with a constitution, but up till now it has never been implemented, the people there are still seating tight, it is illegal for the present executives to stay forever.

“Today now JCOST is not represented here, this initiative is what they ought to be pursuing but they are not effective.”

He noted that a committee had been set up in the past to streamline charges collected by truckers but it was never implemented.
