State Police Command, weekend, confirmed the attack on a member of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Mr. Sunday Nwoba, at Ndiagu Echara in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state.

Echara was reportedly attacked and beaten to coma by 12 hoodlums in the area. Some of his attackers were said to be masked.

Addressing newsmen at the Command Headquarters, Abakaliki, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jude Madu, who described the incident as an assault occasioning harm added that the police had commenced investigation into the matter to determine its immediate and remote causes.

He did not, however, confirm whether the incident bordered on a clash between members of the APC and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

“I have spoken with the DPO of the area on the matter. In fact, the victim requested to be taken to the hospital first of all and he was permitted. When he returns, we will determine the nature of the case.”
