Jos—Plateau State University, PLASU, Bokkos, is set to hold its inaugural convocation ceremony 10 years after the institution was established.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Doknan Sheni, said the inability of the institution to hold any convocation since had impacted negatively on its growth and development.
Speaking, yesterday, during a pre-convocation briefing at the institution’s premises at Bokkos, the VC noted that the turbulent times the university passed through had taken it many years back, particularly the suspension of academic activities in 2007.
According to him, “for over a decade, we have been operating as if we are not a university; without one of our courses accredited. You are also aware that even after the suspension of academic activities was lifted, the university again witnessed the truncation of the tenure of the pioneer Vice Chancellor and my suspension from office for 10 months until the intervention of the National Universities Commission, NUC, which waded into the impasse and returned me to office.”
