ENUGU—Onyekachi Omego, who was trying to escape after he reportedly stabbed a fellow drinker during an argument over a girl, killed another with a stick and told the police in Enugu that the devil pushed him into the act.

Vanguard gathered that the deceased, one Ohabuike, tried to apprehend Omego, who was being chased by some people, thinking Omego was a thief.

An eyewitness told Vanguard that Omego was quarrelling with another man at a “fish joint” at Oduma over a girlfriend, when he suddenly broke a bottle of beer with which he stabbed the man.

According to the eye witness, who simply gave his name as George, “we were at a joint to eat fresh fish and drink to mark the end of 2016, when two customers started quarrelling over who was the boyfriend of one of the female attendants in the place.

“Suddenly, Omego broke the bottle of beer he was drinking and used the empty bottle to attack the other fellow and blood started to gush out.

“He tried to run but fell. He got up, picked a big stick and started running again as those around pursued him.

“As people were pursuing him, another man, who thought he was probably a thief, tried to hold him, but he used the stick to hit the deceased on the head. The man started bleeding through the nose, mouth and ear and then died before he was taken to a nearby hospital.”
