Cult war claims two in Calabar

By Ike Uchechukwu, Calabar

In what could be described as a rekindled  war of supremacy in Calabar South Local government area, two persons were brutally killed yesterday at Anantigha and Ewa Ekeng Streets in Calabar, the Cross River  state capital.

Saturday Vanguard learned that the duo were members of rival gangs who have been engaged in a war of supremacy over the control of a revenue point in the area as well as revenge of dead members of their groups.

Although the identity of one of the victims was unknown as at the time of filing this report but the second person was identified as one Emanuel Eshiet .

An eyewitness told Saturday Vanguard that Emmanuel Eshiet an indigene of Akwa Ibom state was shot dead at about 6: 20 pm yesterday at a car wash at Ewa Ekeng Street in Calabar South.

“The boys who shot him stormed the car wash in a tricycle and opened fire on him, after they shot him, they also shot in the air to scare people away and he died on the spot”

“ I believe nemesis has caught up with him because he killed his wife four years ago with a pestle and boasted that nothing would happen to him but today God has shown him who is more superior ,no crime shall go unpunished” the source said.

Saturday Vanguard also learned that the corpse of the unidentified victim who was killed at Anantigha was immediately taken away by his family members before the arrival of the police.

Impeccable police sources told our reporter that the family did what they did to avoid police involvement in the matter since they had advised the deceased to shun cultism but he remained adamant until his untimely death.
