5 die, 23 injured in Delta autocrash

NO fewer than five persons died yesterday while 23 others sustained various degrees of injuries, following a head-on collision between a luxury bus and Mercedes Benz 911 along the Anwai-Illah road, near Asaba, Delta State.

Director of Operations, Delta State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mrs. Uche Chukwurah, said seven people came out unhurt in the accident which occurred at about  4am.

Attributing the accident to speed violation, she said the luxury bus belonging to a renowned private transport company, Young Shall Grow was on its way from Port Harcourt enroute Abuja when the accident occurred.

While reiterating that the motorists were traveling at very odd hours, Chukwurah stressed the need for drivers to always adhere to traffic rules and avoid night travels. Meanwhile, corpses of the deceased victims had been deposited in the mortuary at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba while the injured were taken to St. Joseph Catholic Hospital and St. Rebecca Hospital for treatment.
