New GMD, NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru

ABUJA- THE Senate has accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Cotporation, NNPC and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC of alleged unlawful and willful misappropriation of public revenue to the tune of $3.487 billion.
Against this backdrop, the Senate Tuesday mandated its Committees of Petroleum Resources (Upstream) and that of Finance to as a matter of urgency, carry out a holistic investigation into the alleged level of corruption in the Corporation with a view to recovering every fund due to the Federation Account as a result.
The upper chambers also mandated the NNPC and the NPDC to immediately remit monies obtained on behalf of the Federal Government to the Federation Account upon lifting and the GMD ensure compliance to this directive with immediate effect.
The Senate also directed the NNPC to as a matter of urgency forward to National Assembly its yearly estimate for repairs and pipeline operations and maintenance for Appropriation.
The resolutions of the Senate were sequel to a motion by Senator Dino Melaye, APC, Kogi West and titled, ” the unlawful and willful misappropriation and criminal withholding of public revenue by the NNPC and NPDC from 2013 to date.
