…Owerri set for 2017 edition
It could not have been better, as most people saw Ade Ojeikere dance publicly, for the first time. Alhaji Mumini Alao also was at his best, double doctor Larry Izamoje, almost threw humility to the winds. It was on Tuesday night at the maiden Guild of Sports Editors’ Night of Excellence.
AIPS President, Africa, Mitchel Obi spoke more than French, he also danced away the night, Emeka Obasi, was in the House looking as young as ever. Kunle Solaja dropped history for dance. Frank Ilaboya could not believe the heavyweights he saw could be brought under one umbrella.
Felix Awogu stood tall on the podium, Paul Ogazi, came to the occasion with his daughter, Dr Rauf Ladipo with his band of supporters almost made the DJ for the night inconsequential. Paul Bassey’s son confused many who thought the young man was the legendary Paul. It was indeed a Night worth tagged Excellent.
There were goodwill messages from Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima and Melvin Amaju Pinnick.
At the end of the day, Imo state Chief Of Staff, Ugwumba Uchendu Nwosu, was so overwhelmed by the occasion that he said the next Night of Excellence will be held December 20, 2017 in the State capital, Owerri. It was indeed a night that all sports editors in Nigeria have to be proud of. “We remain committed to best practices in journalism and we will do all to ensure that the Guild of Sports Editors work with the NUJ to take Nigeria sports journalism to the next level “, declared Tony Ubani, President of the Guild.
