Couple to die by hanging for murder

Osogbo—Justice Adedotun Onibokun of an Osun State High Court sitting in Ile-Ife, yesterday, sentenced a couple, Mr. Fatai Jimoh and Mrs Lateefat Jimoh, to death by hanging for armed robbery.

The convicts were arraigned on June 2, 2014, on a three-count charge of murder, conspiracy to murder and robbery contrary to Section (1) 316 and punishable under Section 319 Cap 34 Laws of Osun State and (6b) punishable under Section 1 (1) 2 (a) of the Robbery and Firearm (Special Provision) Act, Cap R11 Law of Nigeria.

The prosecutor, Moses Faremi, told the court that the convicts had, on August 12, 2009, conspi-red to murder Mrs Bukola Taiwo at Ikeketu village near Garage Olode in Ife South council.

He further told the court that Fatai Jimoh went into Mrs Taiwo’s room and strangled her, while his wife used a sledge hammer to smash  Taiwo’s forehead.

Faremi said the convicts then went away with the deceased’s N48,780.

Witnesses included a police inspector, a pathologist from UCH, Ibadan, the Baale of Ikeketu and a neighbour, who saw what happened and alerted others.
