THE Nigerian Guild Of Sports Editors’ Night of Excellence has continued to elicit commendation from some sports personalities, including those listed for recognition on the night, who believe the programme would help reshape sports journalism in the country.
The Night of Excellence is a programme designed to honour both retired and practicing Nigerian top sports journalists by the Guild of Sports Editors, an umbrella body for editors and managers of sports desks in the country’s media organisations.

Speaking on the event, which will hold at Pearlworth Hotel and Suites, Alausa, Ikeja, on December 20, 2016, SuperSports (West Africa) General Manager, Felix Awogu, said he was delighted to be associated with it and called on other stakeholders, including the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) to support the initiative.
Nigerian Women’s League Chairperson, Aisha Falode, after going through the profile of the leadership of the Editors’ body, was convinced that only excellence can come out of it. “I again insist that this is the first time that the constituency, which I belong, is considering to tell me thank you for my years of service to sportscasting in particular and sports journalism in general,” she said.
Chairman/CEO of HotSports Media Group, Mr. Taye Ige, spoke in a similar vein, saying he has declared himself an automatic member of the association and pledged his presence on the day to support a new dawn in sports journalism at the topmost level.
The maiden Night of Excellence, which is scheduled to begin by 7.00 p.m. prompt, according to the Guild’s President, Tony Ubani, is strictly by invitation.
