 The Presidential Amnesty office has disclaimed one Justice Golubo alias ‘General Eagle’ a suspected gang leader of oil facilities’ vandalism, illegal bunkering and kidnapping in the region.

It disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday, explaining that the suspected oil facilities’ vandal has nothing to do with Amnesty office nor militancy in the region.

“There is no such name or person in the record of the presidential Amnesty Programme and has never been part of it.”

“It is not uncommon for suspects to claim to be part of the Amnesty Programme, hoping this way to escape justice or mitigate whatever punishment may be due to them”.

“The Amnesty Office believes that every crime should attract commensurate punishment irrespective of claims by suspects. In any case, being a beneficiary of the Presidential Amnesty Programme is no immunity for any post-Amnesty crime committed”.

The office also appealed to the media to always verify claims by suspects before going to the press.

The Presidential Amnesty Office commended the Joint Task Force ,JTF Operation Delta Safe for arresting the suspect and his gang.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, General Paul Boroh has praised the good conduct of the 30,000 beneficiaries of the Programme for eschewing violence during the December 10, 2016 electoral rerun in Rivers State.

He further advised that, no matter the temptation, violence should not be an option as anybody caught engaging in violence would be exited from the programme and will lose all entitlements.

“I commend the beneficiaries of the programme for their understanding in the face of delays in the payment of their stipends or In-Training-Allowances. I promise all arrears will be cleared soon”.
