Ibadan—Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State yesterday urged Speakers of Houses of Assembly in South West states to work toward ensuring effective and people-focused legislation.

He made the call while declaring open the South West Speakers Conference at CarltonGate Exclusive Hotel in Ibadan.

The conference had as theme: “Effective Legislative Governance and Service Delivery Reforms in the South-West Region.”

Ajimobi, who was represented by Alhaji Ismael Alli, the Secretary to the State Government, also urged stakeholders and career civil servants in the Houses of Assembly to remove bottlenecks impeding effective legislative works.

“The leadership in the various Houses of Assembly in the region should endeavour to place high premium on its effectiveness in making the legislative arm meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.

“Such, if ensured, will help them in the passage of people-focused bills tailored toward ensuring good governance,” he said.

The governor also called for effective synergy between the legislature and the executive on issues that could improve the lives of the people in its entirety.
