Why Buhari should sack NSA Monguno- NIM

The Nigeria Integrity Movement (NIM) has called for the immediate removal of the National Security Adviser, Gen Babagana Monguno RTD for his alleged involvement in the ongoing arms probe.

A source who is a member of the Presidential Panel on Arms Purchase was quoted to have said that General Monguno collected hundreds of millions of naira from former NSA Sambo Dasuki at different times while the latter held sway as the substantive NSA.

You may recall that the Panel of Inquiry inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari was reported to have submitted its report to the President, indicting Major-General Babagana Monguno (rtd.), the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Minister of Interior, Gen Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau Retd and 10 others over their alleged involvement in the corruption that greeted the arms purchase.

The Integrity Movement is of the opinion that General Monguno should be removed from office without delay and submit himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for probe, as that is the only honourable thing to do.

It decried the situation where some indicted persons are treated like kings due to their association with the President, while others who are not ally of the President are treated as if they were already convicted.

The Movement also opined that it will amount to exercise in futility to allow Gen Monguno remain in office despite his indictment, as it won’t allow for unbiased probe.

The group further condemned the continuous vandalism of pipelines in the Niger Delta region, killing of citizens of Shiaa faith, and the growing Boko Haram attacks in the Northeast.

The group admonished Mr President to find a more suitable hand to handle the responsibility of National Security, passing a vote of no confidence on the NSA.

It said: “Apart from these present failures of the security agencies, they have continuously watched the other way while herdsmen slaughter Nigerians while opening fire on unarmed protesters in southeast. The NSA has proved his incompetence beyond reasonable doubt. He has to go.

“Look at the situation surrounding the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, in December 2015, their members were brutally murdered by the Nigeria Army, their leader Shiekh Zazkzaki was shot severally and arrested, he has been in detention without trial.”

“Since the past few months, hundreds of their members have been identified and killed like animals by a combined team of the Army, Police and bloodthirsty street urchins in various part of Kaduna, Kano and plateau states. Aside that, hundreds of them are in various police detentions and prisons including minors. All these are capable of creating another societal monster that could threaten national security. Yet, the NSA sat in his office doing nothing to address it”

On the Biafra agitators, the Movement insisted in the indivisibility of Nigeria but decried the brutal manner peaceful protesters were killed and the continuous detention of agitators, some without trials, saying that such is capable of giving rise to bloody resistance by the masses.

The group went on to flay the incompetence of Gen Monguno saying that if the NSA had intervened in the herdsmen-farmers clashes, the country wouldn’t be facing food scarcity and hike in price of agricultural products.

“Why won’t price of agricultural commodities be on the rise when herds of cattle feast on farm produce, while the farmers and their families get killed by the herdsmen? If Monguno had done his job, some of these crises would have been avoided,” the group stated.

The group, however, urged Nigerians not to give up on Nigeria but to continue to pray for the country.
