ABUJA—DEPUTY Senate, President Ike Ekweremadu, has stressed the need for well-meaning Nigerians to support in the provision of social amenities, saying government alone could not engender development.
According to him, it has become imperative for individuals to assist government because the demands of the people, especially in terms of the provision of employment and critical infrastructure, need everybody’s attention and involvement.
Ekweremadu stated this weekend, as he donated an electricity transformer to boost power supply at Umulumgbe in Udi local government area of Enugu State.
He explained that the donation was informed by what he described as the desire to bring development to his constituents and also complement the efforts of the state and local governments in providing critical infrastructure to the people.
Ekweremadu, in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Uche Anichukwu, made the donation on the occasion of the grand reception organised by the community in honour of the governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and chairman of Udi Llocal government area, Engr. Hyacinth Ugwu, at Umulumgbe.
Senator Ekweremadu, who commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the peace and developmental efforts by his administration, despite present economic challenges and depleted resources, however, noted that government alone could not meet the demands of the people in terms of the provision of employment and critical infrastructure.
He, therefore, called on public-spirited individuals and corporate bodies to support government in achieving better life for the people.
