Former captain of the Golf section of Ikoyi Club Lagos, Soji Awogbade and Otunba Olusola Adekanola have both paid glowing tribute to the Elizabeth Wuraola Adeojo Memorial Golf tournament in its 13th edition this year saying it has become an important tournament in the anal of golf in the country.
Both golf lovers were full of praises for the great potentials and facilities at the Smokin Hills Golf Resort the Wuraola Adeojo tournament has availed to them and other golfers.
For Awogbade, “ It has always been a dream for me coming here every time to play golf. A facility like this does not exist in the kind of setting that it does in Nigeria and to think that it is one man’s effort, it’s massive. I think it is a leg up for the game and I also think that we should all (both government and private ) do our best to support this initiative and bring it up to world standard”.

He advised the organisers of the tournament to schedule the event in a way that it does not cross with other major golf events in the country. “The event needs to be scheduled in such a way that it does not clash with any other major events. For instance, the Lagos Open is playing this weekend so we don’t need that to happen to an event like this because you will not get the best draw on competitors. The scheduling really needs to be carefully done so that it doesn’t clash with any other one because this is a very attractive golf course and people who know what golf is all about, people who fly all over the world are very proud to say that this is something that exists in Nigeria. So we should look at the scheduling and take it seriously,”said Barrister Awogbade.
On his part, Otunba Adekanola, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) CMCL said, “We come here in solidarity to showcase the potentials of this great golf course, this great facility which we are trying to draw the attention of the entire world to this corner of Nigeria. It has huge potentials and we are trying to encourage the founder, Chief Mike Ade Ojo to brush it up and bring it to the notice of world tourism.”
