Nnewi—The people of Awka-Etiti in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State said at the weekend that they have only one traditional ruler in the person of Chief Michael Ezeudenna who was coronated on November 2, 2016 and was given a certificate of recognition on November 3, 2016 by the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano.

The community equally said there was no tussle for the seat of their traditional ruler and disowned any other person laying claim to their throne. The people said the community has not crowned any other person except Ezeudenna, and thanked Governor Obiano for recognizing him.
They described the claim by one of their sons who said he is the crown prince of the community and was coronated on November 5 as complete fallacy, capable of causing crisis in the community, adding that there is nothing like crown prince in choosing a traditional ruler .
The secretary of Obi-in-council of Awka-Etiti, Chief Ebele Elemuo, who is the Ichie Ohamadike of the town while briefing newsmen at the weekend said there was no crisis during and after the election of their new traditional ruler and wondered why the son of the late king, Prince Chuma Ojukwu claimed he has been coronated on November 5.
“The kingship of our community is rotational among the seven communities and not hereditary, based on the constitution of the town. So, after the death of Igwe Ojukwu, the community notified the village that was supposed to produce the next Igwe, which is Umunocha village.
“The Umunocha village presented Chief Ezeudenna and three others who stood for an election but Chief Ezeudenna won the other contestants by over 50 percent votes cast.”
Chief Elemuo was flanked by the chairman of Publicity subcommittee on coronation of Igwe Ezeudenna, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Okpalaeke during the press conference.
