A former Ag Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Pastor Power Ziakede Aginighan, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the take-off of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko with a temporary site at Kurutie in Warri South-west LGA of Delta State. In a statement in Port Harcourt, Saturday,
Aginighan described Mr President’s action as a significant demonstration of commitment to the development of the oil rich Niger Delta region. Aginighan also expressed his appreciation to the Senate for the accelerated consideration of the bills for Acts of the National Assembly for the establishment of the maritime university and the upgrade of the Maritime Academy Oron, Akwa Ibom State to a full fledged university.
He stated: “The establishment of these two specialised institutions will go a long way in building capacity for Nigerians in the Maritime sector, considering Nigeria’s strategic position in the Gulf of Guinea.
These institutions will also attract foreign direct investments into the country by providing tertiary maritime education to many African countries and beyond. The institutions will also play key roles in the reintegration phase of the presidential amnesty program as well as providing employment opportunities for the teeming population of unemployed youths of the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole”.
