ONITSHA—Leader of Biafra Independence Movement/Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, BIM/MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, yesterday identified Mrs. Bridget Agbahime’s killing as one of the numerous killings of Ndigbo in Nigeria that have gone with little or no consequence.

He condemned the release of her five suspected killers by a magistrate court in Kano, attributing the action as part of insecurity of the lives and properties of Ndigbo in Nigeria which propelled his group, MASSOB and later, BIM to clamour for an independent state of Biafra through non-violence and non exodus.

In a statement issued yesterday in Onitsha, Anambra State and signed on his behalf by BIM’s Director of Information, Mazi Chris Mocha, Uwazuruike recalled that Mr. Gideon Akaluka, a tipper driver was also beheaded in Kano in 1994 by Muslim fundamentalists who used his lifeless head to make a caricature and yet no one was brought to justice.

Uwazuruike further recalled that six innocent Igbo traders were also killed extra-judicially  in similar circumstances in Apo village, Abuja,   on June 8, 2005 by policemen led by a deputy commissioner of police, DCP, Ibrahim Danjuma and still nobody was penalized for that.

He observed with dismay that 11 years after the multiple murder of the Igbo traders in Abuja, the principal suspect in the said murder was walking the streets, a freeman.

The BIM leader said that rather than remanding them in prison custody or transferring the case a higher court which has the jurisdiction to entertain the matter, the Magistrate court granted them bail.

According to Uwazuruike, “You may also recall that in the case of Apo six killing in Abuja, a judicial commission of inquiry headed by Justice Olasumbo Goodluck exonerated the six Igbo traders from the armed robbery allegation that were leveled against them by the police, yet the killers are yet to be brought to book”.
