6 Div urges communities’ cooperation for N-Delta security

PORT HARCOURT— Newly established 6 Division, Nigerian Army, in Port Harcourt, has appealed for cooperation from communities to enhance security in the Niger Delta.

Pioneer General Officer Commanding, GOC, of   the Division, Major General Kasimu Abdulkarim, who spoke in Port Harcourt, said the Division would among other things, check militant activities in the region, noting that it would tackle issues of illegal oil bunkering, kidnapping and related crimes in the region.


The GOC, explained that 2,16 and 63 brigades were under the Division which would cover Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers states.

He said 2 Brigade which used to be at Bori Camp, Port Harcourt, had been moved to Akwa Ibom while the new 6 Division had taken over the barracks

“This arrangement would help to curtail the activities of Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, banditry, inter communal clashes illegal bunkering and  kidnapping,” he added.
