UMUAHIA—ABIA State chapter of Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA) has said that there is no division in the party, insisting that the State executive committee of the state is intact.
The State chairman of the party, Chief Emeka Okafor explained that the party is busy preparing for the forthcoming council elections in the State.
According to Okafor, the party would conduct its primary election for the coming council election and urged members of the party to ignore any rumour of crisis in the party and prepare for the scheduled council polls.
Flanked by the State Secretary of the party, Hon. Uche Enyioko, Okafor, dismissed a letter presented by a youth leader of the party in one of the councils to the Abia State electoral commission, ABSIEC, claiming that there was division in the party.
He attributed the rumoured division in the party to political detractors who want the party dead but vowed that they would not allow them to succeed.
“As you can see, we just rose from a meeting where we discussed strategies for the primaries for the coming Local Government elections in the State. We are working hard and we will fully participate in the council elections.
“We are rebuilding our party and very soon, PPA will return to its former glory, and we will begin to win elections again”, Okafor said.
He said that the party has a laid down procedure of disciplining members who go foul of the party’s constitution, insisting that no member of his executive council was even petitioned against let alone suspending them.
“There are laws guiding a political party. If I’m truly removed as the state Chairman, I should be served a letter to that effect. If PPA removes me as the state chairman following the laid down laws, I will humbly bow out. PPA is a political party and therefore must respect the laws guiding a political party”, Okafor said.
