Lagos—GOVERNOR Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has said that to rescue Nigeria from the current economic recession, there is need for Nigerians to be united and steadfast.
Similarly, Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa has urged Nigerians to continue to persevere, steadfast and be in one united entity in the current effort towards the nation building.
The duo made the remark in their congratulatory messages to Nigerians on the commemoration of 56th Independence Day anniversary.
Ambode, at a rally organized by the state government to mark the anniversary, at Police College, Ikeja, stressed that the strategy for getting the country out of recession is for every Nigerian to continue to support the leadership of the country for a better future.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Idiat Adebule, said, “We all need one another to survive as no part of Nigeria can do it all alone and still wield or command the kind of influence that Nigeria currently enjoys in the comity of Nations.
“This is not a time to despair. It is a time to review our patriotic zeal and stand firm with our leaders at all levels in our collective efforts to make Nigeria work for all.
“I wish to use this opportunity to make a passionate appeal, more than ever before, that we must renew our belief in the Nigeria Project and play our parts diligently. At this trying and challenging time, we must aggregate our strength and be united in focus to rescue our economy from the stranglehold of recession,” he added.
Ambode assured residents of Lagos that its all-inclusive governance strategy would never be jettisoned, saying it was government’s plan to make lives comfortable for everyone in the state.
His words: “We have demonstrated through our actions that it is a clear statement of commitment; we are determined to actualize within the shortest time possible. The future of our State is certainly brighter than anyone can imagine. Let us therefore forge a common front to defend our hard earned freedom by being purposeful, focused and disciplined.”
Speaker on steadfastness
Obasa, in his Independence Day message to Nigerians through his Chief Press Secretary, Musbau Rasak, urged residents in particular and Nigerians in general, to continue to persevere, remain steadfast and be in one united entity in the current effort towards the nation building.
Obasa said: “The celebration brings hope to Nigerians because the present government is determined to bring Nigeria out of its present state. It is an open secret that there is economic recession in the country and I salute the perseverance and patience of our people. We should however take solace in the fact that the government of the day knows what to do and is capable of lifting Nigeria out of recession.”
