Super Eagles assistant coach, Salisu Yusuf has stated that the team’s technical crew is less concerned with whom the Algeria Football Federation hired as coach for the Fennec Foxes, but rather important was how to get the three points, when Nigeria clash with Algeria on November 12 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Algeria on Thursday confirmed Georges Leekens as coach, ahead of the crucial tie against the Eagles. The Belgian-born coach said after signing the contract that he has hope that Algeria will be at the World Cup and a win against the Super Eagles is a step towards that direction.
“I’m very happy to be once again in Algeria as a coach. I trust in the capacities of the Algerian football team, they are able to make it to the world cap,” said Leekens
The Super Eagles lead the group with three points; a win in Uyo will keep them in a good position to pick the ticket for the 2018 World Cup. Algeria will be looking to win the game and get back their momentum after the 1-1 draw against Cameroon.
“As for us (the technical crew), what we are concerned about is the three points and I know the team won’t fail to make Nigerians proud on November 12. There is no argument that Algeria have a solid squad blessed with talents, however, we are also working out plans to ensure that we neutralise them.
“Regardless of their managerial situation, we know they still pose a threat against any team in the world. I am very optimistic that the Super Eagles will give their best to make that day special for us,” Yusuf declared.
